The Well Aged Programme is a programme for specific action to assist the elderly in the community. The programme is administered by the Committee on the Ageing.
Our Project Coordinator
The Project Coordinator is a part-time officer who manages practical activities under the direction of the committee. Our current Project Coordinator is Ann-Maree Hasselbach. Her office is located in the Senior Citizens Centre, 333 Alice St, Maryborough.
Interaction with the Community
The Committee, through the Well-Aged programme, has acted with the community to improve services for older persons. These activities include:
- "Our Place" is a drop-in tea room in the Maryborough City Hall, opened in conjunction with the Maryborough City Council. Refreshments are available, along with information and recreational reading matter. The room is staffed by volunteers, ready for a chat, and open each Thursday from 9am to 12.30pm
- The Committee identified the older persons need for wheelchairs in local shopping centres through a survey of needs. In conjunction with local businesses, wheelchairs were made available in three local shopping centres. These are now available for free use by patrons at Woolworths, Coles and Station Square. It is advisable to make a booking at the shopping centre for this service.
