How to be a "Perfect Doctor's Patient"

Everyone is short of time these days. This makes the consultation time with your doctor important, and these tips will help you get value.

• Stay with the doctor who knows you and your family background, which all helps in making the right diagnosis.
• Come prepared with your specific concerns and any questions you want answered (even write them down if need be).
• Be honest – holding back on important information hinders your doctor; remember your consultation is confidential.
• Bring a relative or friend if you need help to recall your consultation of what you are told or have hearing problems.

Alzheimer's Australia Wide Bay Burnett has a Dementia and Memory Community Centre located 200 Bazaar Street (cnr Kent and Bazaar Streets), Maryborough.

You can borrow books, videos and DVD's on many subjects including memory, dementia and caring for someone living with dementia. There is also a public access computer if people wish to search the internet for information. In addition, the activities program for people in early stage dementia and their carers is in the planning process and will be commencing soon. This program offers opportunities for social, physical and mental stimulation
